Since 2007, Young Audiences Arts for Learning Connecticut, as Connecticut’s VSA arts Affiliate, has:
- Partnered with Connecticut’s arts, community, and cultural organizations, organizations that support people with disabilities, and education institutions to bring arts programs to inclusive populations of children and adults throughout the state.
- Held professional development conferences on best practices, providing workshops and training for teaching artists, educators and people interested in bringing the arts to people with disabilities.
- Conducted inclusive dance, visual art, music, theatre and photography residencies.
Our Affiliate partnered with the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism to create a Statewide Advisory Committee and bring the first Statewide Forum for Careers in the Arts for People with Disabilities to Connecticut in November of 2008. This Statewide Advisory Committee continues to meet and engage in activities informed by Forum participants:
- Advocacy for careers in the arts for people with disabilities
- Mentoring opportunities for artists with disabilities
- Creating opportunities for visual and performing artists with disabilities to exhibit their work.
