Did you know that varicose or spider veins affect over half of all adults over 50? If you are one of them you are certainly not alone. There is good news, however, as the most experienced cardivascular group in the area is ready to help. CTVSA has been healing gulf coast residents for over 40 years and through more than 50,000 surgeries. While your varicose veins may not even require surgery, isn’t it good to know you’re in such capable hands?

Understanding spider and varicose veins

Do you often hide your legs because of the way they look? You may have noticed tiny red or blue bursts (spider veins). Maybe you have veins that buldge or look twisted (varicose veins). If so, there are treatments that can help.

What are the symptoms?

Spider veins or varicose veins may never be a problem. Sometimes, however, they can cause legs to ache or swell. Your legs may also feel heavy and tired, or like they’re burning. These symptoms may be more severe at the end of the day. Prolonged sitting or standing can also make your symptoms worse.

Who gets spider and varicose veins?

Anyone can get spider or varicose veins. However, vein problems tend to be hereditary. Other factors that can affect veins include pregnancy, hormones and birth control pills; a job where you sit or stand for prolonged periods; extra weight or lack of exercise; and age.

What can be done?

Spider and varicose veins can affect the way you feel about yourself. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. There are treatments that can ease symptoms and make your legs look better.

Your treatment options

Treatment may include self care, sclerotherapy (the injection of a chemical into the veins), or surgery. Typically sclerotherapy is a viable solution with spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Large varicose veins may need surgery.
